Finally ate at G2B. Food was tasty, but pricey. And the overall design is bizarre. Very modern, lovely insides. And then the logo designed by a 12-year-old girl. And the staff wearing flower power shirts.
Worst.website.EVER. Seriously, an intro page? Are we partying like it's 1999?
I don't judge service too harshly in the first few weeks of opening, but I felt like our server was terrified of us. I mean, yes, it was probably hard to get a word in edgewise, but be strong! And they were obsessed with clearing things...to the point where I was afraid to go to the bathroom.
I liked their beer selection (I had a tasty Unibroue - Ephemere). Shotgun Betty on tap, yum! They had more local selections on their menu than you see on the website.
We started with their wings, which were tasty enough, but really, not so much with the crispy. I like my skin very crispy, and it was mostly mushy.
I had the beef sirloin, with avocado chimichurri and garlic mashed potatoes. It was pretty much perfect.
Since I work near G2B, I'm pretty disappointed they aren't doing lunch right now, but then again, I wasn't going to get a $13 burger for lunch. I do hope they come up with some more...sharing oriented appetizers, so that we can stop by for drinks after work.
Still, my plan is to go again, checking out the burger this time and seeing how it holds up to Geer St Garden and BCBB.

Breakfast smoothies
We've been meaning to make breakfast smoothies since we came back from Seattle and Carol was making them for us. They were such a lovely part of breakfast (and all that yummy fruit made me feel good) that we wanted to continue doing it. So it's taken us...3 months or so to finally make some. Although we've been doing more breakfasts together in general, it's typically just been a bagel.
I used Alton Brown's smoothie recipe like so:
4 oz soy milk (I used vanilla silk)
4 oz juice (he recommends grape, acai or pom; i used the v8 fusion acai mixed berry b/c it's what I like)
4oz banana (this was the only nonfrozen fruit I used, since ours arn't brown yet)
4oz frozen strawberry
4oz frozen peach
4oz frozen blueberries
He says to put the whole mess together and keep in fridge overnight, but we kept forgetting to do it (thus the many months of no smoothies), so this morning I threw caution to the wind and just made the damn thing anyway (since our blender is supposed to handle ice, how hard can some frozen fruit be?). Outcome = delicious! We split the smoothie between us and split a bagel. Perfect lovely breakfast! Although we failed to make coffee, so we'll probably both be pokey today.
Side Note: our blender apparently no longer changes speed, which, you know...weird. I guess I need to start looking into a new one.

Most amazing sandwich ever
Last sunday, we went to Kildare's in Chapel Hill after a fabulous play The Jimmy performed in. Criminally underused IMO, but that's the curse of being too damn good.
But I had a sandwich that I think came straight down from Olympus. A lovely flatbread holding thin sliced granny smith apples, goat cheese and honey, hot pressed panini-style. So incredible I'm still going on and on about it. I think it's something to be added to my personal food repertoire.
