Webcomic: Goblins

Goblins is a fantasy RPG as seen through the NPC's eyes.  Specifically, the weak little goblins, who are mad as hell, and arn't gonna take it anymore.  Start at the beginning, or it won't make any sense, but this comic has moved me to the point of tears at various points.  The beginning is a little shaky, and DnD ingame jokey, and...it does have some puns, but, move past all that and you too will feel the love.

Silly brain

I woke up to what I thought was Scott calling me from the kitchen.  I get up, go to the bathroom, and go to the kitchen.  Where he is...not, he's not in the house.  Being an incredibly rational person when I first wake up, I start to panic, and kinda holler his name.  And I hear him calling me faintly.   Being rational, where's the first place I assume he must be at this point?  Under the house, of course!  When I holler 'Where ARE YOU', I hear the faint, slightly puzzled reply "I'm in bed".

Perhaps the king size bed IS a little too big.

Art: My Very First Fused Glass Piece

I accidentally stumbled into fused glass, when I was looking to take a glass lamp/fire working class.  The DAC, which is conveniently right down the street from me, had a fused glass class, but not the other.  I said to hell with it, and signed up anyway.  I figured it would be fun, and hey, I like glass.

While it looks increasingly rough to my eyes, I still love my happy little plate.  One big thing I learned: if you want to eat off something, double check that the glass you're using is food safe FIRST.  Turns out there are several shades of white that use lead in the glass, including the one I chose.  It would be ok if I'd capped the whole thing with clear, but I didn't, so now it's only job is to look pretty. And to remind me that I prefer fusing then slumping the shape.

Webcomic: Girl Genius

I was originally introduced to Phil Foglio's work in his illustrations of Robert Asprin's 'Myth Adventures' fantasy series, in my more misspent youth.  A few years ago, I stumbled upon his and his wife, Kaja's, stunning comic "Girl Genius", about Agatha Heterodyne, a mad spark/inventor.  They classify it as 'gaslamp fantasy', which I think is just another name for steampunk.  It's delicious mad science, and everyone should be reading it.

Webcomic: Girls with Slingshots

I'm pretty sure I want to have Danielle Corsetto's alien love baby.  Despite being around since 2004, I personally only discovered her webcomic, Girls with Slingshots after a crossover with another webcomic I read, and of course, being slightly OCD, I had to read the entire archive before I read the crossover.

I love her style and her storylines and one day, ONE DAY...I'll probably introduce myself really awkwardly, and wish the earth would actually listen to me and swallow me whole on command.

Music: Birds and Arrows

Ok, so I'm totally biased since I'm co-owner of the label (307 Knox Records) that put out Birds and Arrows latest album, Starmaker. However, they are really amazing, and the album is so gorgeous and here is the cool thing: you can stream the album for free from The Independent, where they were album of the month.  You can also read their review and interview, but whatev, go listen.  And if you don't like it?  You have no soul. Ok, I will accept that it might not be your style, but it might also be the soul thing.

Introducing: Fredericka Delilah

Last week, when poking around a fine discount store, Scott stumbled upon a large blown glass chicken, to which he exclaimed: we need to make this light up.  In our fine discount store, we fooled around with several different vases, bowls and pots to find the perfect perch for the chicken, who we christened Fredericka Delilah.  We finally settled for a reddish lacquerware asymmetrical pot.  It was lightweight, and most importantly, since we had no idea how we were gonna light Fredericka up, we knew we could abuse it with power tools and it would probably not fall apart. It did have the downside of being flammable, and probably coated in some sort of an accelerant. However, we pressed on!

We visited Target and aquired several different LED light sources. We toyed with the idea of one of the battery operated strands, but that seems like turning it on and off and replacing the batteries would be a pain in the ass. The picture on the left shows what Fredericka looks like filled with a 60 bulb strand of LED dome lights. As you can see, it looked interesting, and generated a fair amount of light, but it threw up some crazy texture, and we just weren't feeling it. We played with a few different colored strands, but they all gave that same look, and the whole string stuffed up in Fredericka did generate a little more heat than we were really happy with. So we ended up using a USB-powered light shifting LED starflake ornament, set under her, giving us a perfect shifting glow!
